剧情概览
在生下悉达多太子之后，释迦国的王后摩耶夫人（吉用小百合 配音）往生忉利天，注视着这个不平凡之子的证道之路。生老病死的切实苦痛，让成年后的悉达多太子（吉冈秀隆 配音）抛弃荣华富贵，爱欲纠缠，云游四方寻找生命的终极答案。在此过程中，他邂逅了极端自律的苦行僧迪帕（藤原启治 配音）和性命虽短却开朗豁达的少年阿说示（泽城美雪 配音）。他们前往著名的苦行林，试图通过折磨身心的办法得到解脱。与此同时，因出身而背负了巨大屈辱和仇恨的憍萨罗王子琉璃（真木阳子 配音）则发誓要消灭所有的释迦种，为此他不惜囚禁折磨同样出身释迦国的生身母亲。佛陀证悟的前夕，一段伟大事迹的开始……
